United Arab Emirates v Kuwait ? Asian Cricket Council Trophy Elite 2012 (Group B) ? Match Update
Five half-centuries, followed by an intense bowling attack, saw the United Arab Emirates claiming a massive 141-run win over Kuwait at the Al Dhaid Cricket Village on October 7, in their Group B match during the Asian Cricket Council Trophy Elite 2012, currently being played in the UAE.
Kuwait won the toss and chose to field first, and while Saad Khalid (10-0-64-2), Kashif Sharif (10-0-67-2), and Yohan Chandana (7.4-0-74-2), made valiant efforts to keep the opposition in check, 5 batsmen managed to score half-tons, propelling the UAE to a solid final total of 353.
Openers Abdul Shakoor (79) and Arshad Ali (70) set up a stellar 116-run stand which got the team off to a steady start. The 15th over saw Saad Khalid getting a breakthrough for Kuwait, dismissing Shakoor, and following it by running out Shaiman Anwar on duck in the very same over.
Arshad Ali carried on, setting up a 79-run stand with Saqib Ali (78), and their combined efforts got the team up to a total of 195 by the 30th over. Arshad Ali was then trapped lbw by Ali Shahzad, and followed soon after by skipper Khurram Khan (4). However, Saqib Ali found a stable partner in Rohan Mustafa (60), and their 46-run partnership came to an end only when Saad Khalid intervened once again, sending Saqib Ali back to the pavilion in the 39th over.
Rohan Mustafa and Mohammad Azam (51) were the last two batsmen who managed double figures, and following the termination of their 77-run stand, the remainder of the batting order was ineffective. Amjad Javed (4), Ahmed Raza (2), Manjula Guruge (0), and Shadeep Silva (0*) were all unremarkable, but the top and middle order had done their job well. By the last over, UAE were all out, but posted a solid final total of 353.
Following their batting display, the UAE launched a fierce bowling attack spearheaded by Arshad Ali (5-1-39-3), Ahmed Raza (7-1-44-2), Khurram Khan (6-0-17-2), and Mohammad Azam (6-0-19-2), all of whom chipped in to ensure that Kuwait were cut off before they could reach the target.
Kuwait?s top-order held up fairly well against the UAE?s bowling attack, with Irfan Bhatti (44), Abid Mushtaq (28), and Sibtain Raza (40) all chipping in with sizeable contributions. However, out of the remainder of the batting order, only Kashif Sharif (16), Jagath Roshantha (19), Saad Khalid (18), and Yohan Chandana (26) managed to reach double-figures, and by the 37th over, Kuwait were all out at 212, granting the UAE a 141-run win.
