Michelle Obama Fashion Watch: First Lady Shines at White House Correspondents' Dinner

President Barack Obama joked at the White House Correspondents' dinner this weekend that an alarming percentage of poll respondents prefer his better half.

Self-deprecation aside, First Lady Michelle Obama more than holds her own, and not just when it comes to besting Ellen at pushups or being a fashion icon.

For Saturday's Hollywood-meets-Washington bash, President Obama's wife, 48, looked regal yet flirty in a strapless paisley organza gown by Naemm Khan:

The mother of two accentuated the dress by wearing her hair in loose, tousled waves, accessorized with gold hoop earrings. As always, the end result was stunning.

Mrs. Obama cracked up sitting next to the night's host Jimmy Kimmel, who roasted the President and scores of other A-list attendees during a 25-minute speech.

The night's guests included George Clooney, Reese Witherspoon, Kim Kardashian, Eva Longoria, Anna Paquin, Steven Spielberg, Tony Romo, Candice Crawford, Matthew Morrison, Kate Hudson, Rick Santorum and Lindsay Lohan.

What do you think of Michelle Obama's dress?

LG's IPS monitors head downmarket with 2D-only IPS4 series launching soon

LG's IPS monitors head downmarket with 2D-only IPS4 series launching soon

While LCD monitors with in-plane switching technology were once decidedly settled at the high end, LG apparently thinks its time for everyone to have one and is launching its mainstream IPS4 line. Executive VP JJ Lee says the aim is for IPS monitors to become "ubiquitous in every room", bringing better color reproduction, picture quality and wide viewing angles with them. So far we know they're slotting in just below the 3D-capable models shown off at CES, but there's nothing mentioned in the press release (included after the break along with another pic) about prices, sizes, specs or model numbers. If you're in the market however, expect to find out more soon since they will roll out to Asia first in May, followed by Europe and North America in "the coming weeks".

USC develops printable liquid solar cells for flexible, low-cost panels

Solar cells are becoming more viable sources of energy -- and as they become more efficient, they're only getting smaller and cheaper to produce. Liquid nanocrystal cells are traditionally inefficient at converting sunlight into electricity, but by adding a synthetic ligand to help transmit currents, researchers at USC have improved their effectiveness. The advantage of these liquid solar cells? They're cheaper than single-crystal silicon wafer solutions, and they're also a shockingly minuscule four nanometers in size, meaning more than 250 billion could fit on the head of a pin. Moreover, they can be printed onto surfaces -- even plastic -- without melting. Ultimately, the goal of this research is to pave the way for ultra-flexible solar panels. However, the scientists are still experimenting with materials for constructing the nanocrystals, since the semiconductor cadmium selenide they've used thus far is too toxic for commercial use.

Zynga CEO Mark Pincus: OMGPOP Acquisition Was A ?Rare Instance?

mark-pincusStepping back from remarks a few weeks ago that suggested that Zynga was about to go on a shopping spree, Zynga chief executive Mark Pincus said the $180 million acquisition of Draw Something-maker OMGPOP was a "rare instance." Although OMGPOP was certainly a step up from anything Zynga has ever done before, Pincus said it didn't represent a change in strategy from last year. He said Zynga will continue to be "prudent and bottom line-oriented" in its decisions today during the first-quarter earnings call.?That's a?change in tone from an interview with Bloomberg a few weeks ago when he said that he expected to do "a few? OMGPOP-sized deals in the next three to five years. His remarks helped send shares tumbling 13.9 percent from the day the story appeared.

Business-minded HP 'Slate 8' tablet surfaces in leaked image

Image

This one is still very much unconfirmed, but a "trusted source" recently provided Neowin.net with the image you see above, which purports to be a mockup of a forthcoming business-minded tablet from HP dubbed the Slate 8. That's obviously a Windows 8 tablet and, if the details are to be believed, you can expect a 10.1-inch display, eight to ten hours of battery life, optional pen-based input, a docking station of some sort, an outdoor viewing option and a number of business-friendly security measures -- all in a package that's 9.2mm thick and about 1.5 pounds. Adding some weight to leak is ZDNet's Mary Jo Foley, who hasn't been able to confirm it outright, but says that after a bit of investigation she is "inclined to believe this is a real mock-up and is part of HP's line up of business desktops and laptops it will be touting this year."

Last-Minute Booking App HotelTonight Goes International With Toronto And Vancouver

hoteltonightHotelTonight, the smartphone app that lets you book same-day hotel rooms, is moving into international markets for the first time. It now supports bookings in Toronto and Vancouver, and it plans to add other Canadian and international cities this year. The app is built for this moments when you suddenly realize that it would be nice to have a hotel ? say if you're visiting San Francisco from somewhere else in the Bay Area, and you decide to stay in the city for the night rather than head home. Instead of popping into a random hotel and possibly getting ripped off or finding it full, you can open the HotelTonight app, which will offer three curated hotel deals in the neighborhood ? one that's "Hip", one that's "Luxe", and one that's "Solid". (The deals first become available at noon local time, and can be purchased until 2am.)

Original 'Joe Millionaire' Is Sorry for Being a "Douche"

Remember Evan Marriott, a.k.a. Joe Millionaire? The original star of the 2003 Fox reality hit, Marriott was a very handsome construction worker masquerading as an eligible millionaire; the audience knew his secret, but the women in the Bachelor-style competition did not. After the season ended, Marriott got a little drunk with his newfound fame, telling People that he didn't like any of the girls on the show (including the one he chose) -- and that all he wanted was a "blonde with big boobs, a little waist and a big, thick bubble butt."
