Around the World: McDonald's Hong Kong - Hello Kitty Fairy Tales ...

McDonald's Hong Kong is currently running a Hello Kitty promotion that includes stuffies, food, and a nifty discount card. Dubbed the "Fairytale Flavors of Summer" the promotion features a staggered release schedule of Hello Kitty stuffed toys dressed like familiar fairy tale characters; there's the Ugly Duckling, the Frog Prince, the Cowardly Lion, and Little Red Riding Hood.

Apparently, McDonald's Hong Kong does this every summer. Last year, they held a similar promotion with Hello Kitty plush toys dressed as Ronald McDonald and friends. I'm sure Hello Kitty fans all over the world are devastated that they only do this in Hong Kong (or planning a trip).

The plush toys are sold for 25 Hong Kong Dollars (HKD) or about $3.23 with any food purchase. McDonald's is also featuring special food items with each release.

The schedule started with the Ugly Duckling Hello Kitty which came out on July 5:

The featured food items are a Creme Brulee McFlurry and Honey Mustard sauce.

On July 12, they released the Frog Prince Hello Kitty:

It was accompanied by the release of a Green Tea Red Bean Sundae and Wasabi Flavored sauce. Sounds pretty interesting, no?

Most recently, there's the Wizard of Oz (Cowardly Lion) Hello Kitty:

Featured food items include?Pineapple Punch and Chili Pomodoro sauce.

Coming up on the July 26 is the Little Red Riding Hood Hello Kitty toy:

It's accompanied by the Grape McFloat and Chipotle BBQ sauce. Why a purple drink and not red?!

If you order a McDelivery of at least 70 Hong Kong Dollars (~$9), there's the "24 Hours McDelivery Special Edition Hello Kitty Plush" aka Hello Kitty in a red McDonald's uniform with a broom (magic I'm assuming):

Finally, for the true Hello Kitty collector, there's the Collector's Kit which includes: an exclusive Wisdom Owl (what fairy tale is that? It seems kinda random... like "let's just throw an owl in there"), the four fairy tale Hello Kitty toys, a Hello Kitty special edition story book, a collectible Wisdom Owl card, and four McDonald's 10 HKD ($1.29) coupons. The kit goes for 238 HKD or about $30.71.
But that's not all! There's a Hello Kitty discount card available for 12 HKD ($1.55). It's good through October 4, 2012 and can be used an unlimited amount of times. With it, you can buy certain items (drinks and desserts) and get different designated items for free (also drinks and desserts). For example, if you buy a Double Sundae, you can get a McFloat for free. Buy a Nestea Lemon Tea and you've just scored yourself two Apple Pies! If they had such a card at McDonald's here in the U.S., I might be hanging out at McDonald's all the time.
They call it the "Hello Kitty Tasty Card."
