This isn?t a lucrative business. Being a director for the now successful King Street Gallery, our 22 yr. old gallery didn?t achieve profit for the first 13 yrs. (this is normal).
Our costs are immense and vast, we must earn in excess of $130,000 each year to remain competitive. Rent is 1,200 per month. Advertising is extremely? difficult given the hundreds of galleries in the CBD alone. That is to say, differentiation in the public sphere is near impossible.
