Te'o's fake dead Twitter girlfriend: The movie

By Helen A.S. Popkin

?

Need help wrapping your head around the increasingly convoluted tale of Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te'o and his fake dead Twitter "girlfriend" Lennay Kekua? Good news! ?NMA, the Taiwanese animation outfit that reinterpreted such important tech tales as?Steve Jobs: Airport Ninja and Mark Zuckerberg knifing a pig, breaks it down it its new masterpiece, "Manti Te?o: hoaxed or hoaxster?"

Beginning in the middle of the story ? a classic narrative technique ? the video reveals how grief over the death of his grandmother (true) and his girlfriend (false) literally (at least in this video) transformed Te'o into ... well ... a Transformer, and uses his sadness superpower, "to lead the Fighting Irish to a 20-3 upset of Michigan State, racking up 12 tackles."?Meanwhile, as a tear-streaming Te'o is bedeviled by an army of beer bong-huffing university mascots (leprechauns), a flopping fish on a Deadspin reporter's keyboard leads him and his compatriot into the online world of Twitter, Facebook and Instagram where the truth is revealed. Hilarity ensues ... clarity, not so much.

Does NMA's video answer the question its title poses to us, the viewers? That's for you to watch and decide.

Helen A.S. Popkin?goes blah blah blah about the Internet. Tell her to get a real job on?Twitter?and/or?Facebook.?Also,?Google+.
