Writing for Metro, three-time Olympic cycling medallist Rob Hayles says the way Victoria Pendleton composed herself in the aftermath of yesterday?s disqualification from the team sprint was a credit to herself and her team. Victoria Pendleton said the mistake was down to over-enthusiasm (Picture: BBC) Vicky and Jess Varnish were hard done by to be thrown out for making an illegal changeover. The problem is there?s nothing in the rule book about what is and isn?t allowed. You have marks on the track between which you can changeover but a lot of it?s down to interpretation. If there had been different officials things might have been a lot different ? and we could have been talking about Vicky and Jess as gold medallists. As it is, Vicky heads off to focus on the keirin, which starts today, and then the individual sprint, in which she is defending champion. It?s Jess I feel for as she has no more events in which to compete this time around. But her time will come, she is a rider with great promise. Sir Chris Hoy has reinforced his position as one of Great Britain?s all-time Olympic greats (Picture: AFP/Getty) There was better news for the Brits at the Velodrome though, and we all had to admire the men?s trio of Sir Chris Hoy, Jason Kenny and Philip Hindes as they rode to glory. And all that after young Philip slid down the track in qualifying against Germany, the country of his birth. But he got back up to show his mettle and prove what a talent he is at just 19 years old. Germany will be gutted to have lost him, that?s for sure. And although Chris won gold once again, on the back of his exploits in Beijing, I don?t feel he is quite up to his best of four years ago. But hopefully yesterday can start the gold rush, as the opening day on the track did in China. PICTURES: Images from the Velodrome
