Sony unveils E Series 15 and 17 laptops

JAPANESE ELECTRONICS FIRM Sony announced two Vaio E Series laptops today, expanding its choice of model sizes available to join the firm's recently announced Vaio E Series 14 model.

As their names suggest, the Vaio E Series 15 and E Series 17 models offer 15.5in 1366x768 and 17.3in 1600x900 displays, respectively.

Powered by Sandy Bridge Core i5-2450M processors, Sony's latest laptops will have a 750GB hard disk drive built-in combined with 6GB of RAM and an AMD Radeon HD 7650M graphics card.

Both laptops will feature a fresh 'wrap-around' design with rounded corners to compete with Apple's high-end Macbook look.

In terms of optical drives, the 17in model packs both a Blu-ray player and a DVD-writer while the 15in features just a DVD-writer unit.

Sony said in a press release that its latest laptops will also feature an 'any time' charger for smartphones so that phones can be plugged in via USB for a top-up when the computer is switched off or in sleep mode.

Sony's Vaio E Series 15 will come in white, black and silver, weighing 2.7kg with the battery, while the E Series 17 will come in just black and white, weighing 3.2kg with battery installed. Both will be available from early June.

A firm release date and price are yet to be established by Sony, but we're hoping we can get our hands on them at the Sony World of Vaio event in London on Thursday. ?
